We welcome new players across all brass, woodwind and percussion instruments. We recommend a minimum playing standard of Grade 5, so that you can get the most from the experience of playing with us. However, we don’t insist on grades, and lots of our members are those returning to their instruments after a long break.
All prospective members are welcome to enquire. We are currently particularly looking for new players across the following instruments:
- Woodwind: baritone sax
- Brass: French horn, trombone, tuba
- Percussion: drums/drum kit, timpani, tuned percussion
If you’re interested in playing in South London Symphonic Winds, you are welcome to come along to one of Our Rehearsals. We ask that you contact us first so that we know you’re coming and can share our welcome pack with you, telling you more about the band and the benefits of joining.
Subscription rates
We make no charge for the first 2 rehearsals, while you decide whether you want to join as a full member. After that, we ask that members pay a subscription fee of £15 per month or £45 per quarter.
Concessions are offered for students, unemployed members and senior citizens – please get in touch to find out more about this.
We ask players to take out a standing order, as this is easier all round. If you pay UK tax then we ask you to complete a Gift Aid form, so we can benefit further from your subscription by reclaiming tax through the Gift Aid Scheme.
